How To Cut Tshirt Neck: 7 Ideas to Try - Riverism Blog
T-shirts are must-have items for the majority of us. However, there’s no denying that all those become tedious after a time. This post will show you DIY tips on how to cut tshirt neck to make it look more fashionable and fresh!
If you have an old t-shirt that needs a fun update, trimming the neckline is a simple and quick solution to make it look more flattering. You may customize your shirt to match your style, whether you prefer a scoop neck or a v-neck. You can even make a choker v-neck for a more fascinating and unusual neckline.
1. Make A Scoop Neck Or V-Neck

T-shirts with a crew neck are adaptable and convenient, but the collar can be annoying at times. Why not change your t-shirt into a scoop neck with this simple procedure to get rid of the itchiness and breathe comfortably?
- To remove creases, fold the t-shirt vertically, place it on a level surface, and smooth the fabric out.
- Take a measurement 1 inch below the collar’s bottom. Allow 1 inch more if you want a larger scoop. Mark the new neckline with a pin or a fabric pen once you’ve decided where you want it to fall.
- Begin cutting in a curved line that follows the original neckline’s contour. As you cut, keep both layers of the shirt together to achieve a consistent neckline all the way around. Make each cut as long as possible.
2. Cut A Chocker V-neck
A choker v-neck is stylish and easy to mix with other clothes. A close-fitting t-shirt, scissors, and a fabric pen are all you’ll need.
- Smooth any wrinkles out of the t-shirt on a flat surface.
- On the front layer of the shirt, create a v-shape with your fabric pen. Make a cutout, stretch the t-shirt a little, and you’re finished!

3. Cut A Cold-Shoulder Shirt
- Make a 2–3 in (5.1–7.6 cm) cut around the collar line on both shoulders.
- Mark a spot that is 4 inches (10.2 cm) away from the collar, towards the shoulder. Use chalk or your finger to help you keep track of this spot.
- Cut a diagonal line from the marked spot to your first cut at the collar. Cut the diagonal line out of only the front part of the shirt. Then, cut along the natural shoulder line to cut out a piece of triangle-shaped fabric.

- Place the triangle of fabric so that one point lines up with the end of the cut on the front of the collar and the other lines up with the back.
- Tug on the sides of the shoulder holes to stretch them slightly to make sure the holes are roughly the same size.
4. Cut T-shirt Neckline 80s

Let’s add some late 20th-century glam into your outfit by creating a customized ’80s t-shirt:
- Make a small snip around 1 to 2 inches from each shoulder seam. Use a tailor’s chalk or washable pen to connect the snips with a curved line.
- Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut along the line.
- Add a fringe to the hem, and sleeves by cutting tassels measuring a 1/2 inch wide and several inches long into the bottom of the t-shirt. Add some beads to the fringe to make it extra special.
5. Make a large boat neck

- Draw your t-shirt pattern and extend the line up to the shoulder.
- Mark the shoulder seam at 2 1/2 inches from the outside and the neck at 3 inches down from the shoulder point. However, you can make this any size you want.
- Draw the new neckline like a French curve in the pattern. Then, on the back, you match that with the front using the same measurements. Use the French curve again to draw the new neckline.
- Use a nice pair of scissors to make your cut carefully.

6. Create A Girly V-neck Shirt

- To make a V-neckline from a t-shirt, start measuring 6″ down from the high point of the shoulder, the position right next to the neckband.
- Fold the shirt in half to find the center of the neckline. Use the marking to draw a V-neckline
- Cut along the line to remove the original neckband and make the new neckline. Cut off the sleeves to have a fancy look.
7. Make An Intricate V-Neck
- Make marks down the t-shirt’s v neckline, about half an inch apart.
- Grab your scissors and cut along the collar through both layers, cut the strips accordingly.
- Then, weave the strips by grabbing the top strip and pulling it down. Grab the second strip, pull it up over the first, then down, so that you can grab the third strip. Pull the third up over the second. Continue this process until you reach the bottom.

- While holding the bottom, with your other hand, grab the first loop, twist it, and pull the second strand up through that loop. Twist the second strand and then pull the third up through the second loop.
- Cut and tie the ends. Once you are done weaving, grab the bottom loop and cut it in half. Put one end through the hole at the bottom and tie both ends together.
